Identifying local abilities and capacities for development, including the ability of women in development as half of the human resources of rural communities. Developing rural home businesses and providing the necessary platforms for the growth and development of such businesses is one of the ways to solve the problem of rural poverty. The main purpose of this study is the qualitative analysis of women's understanding of the concept of “work”. The secondary goal is focused on the characteristics of rural home businesses, opportunities, challenges and strategies to deal with them from Standpoint of rural working women. The conceptual framework of this study is based on work sociology theories. The target community is women working in home businesses in Ghorve city. The sample size is selected by snowball method and based on theoretical saturation; it is limited to 25 experienced women in domestic jobs. The findings of the study have analyzed in 4 main categories, 19 sub-categories and 45 concepts. The results of this research show that women working in home businesses define work as “earn of income”, “gain of social prestige”, “participating in decision-making” and “feeling of subjectivity”. Women describe the characteristics of home business as “flexibility of work”, “floating time”, “self-employment”, “Sameness of time, place and nature of woman’s job with household duties.
According with Women’s narrative, they faced many essential challenges such as “Lack of initial capital”, “lack of work skills” and “hard gender of attitudes and stereotypes”. The Strategies they choose to deal with problems include “Using new technologies”, “Learning work skills”, “Learning marketing techniques”, “Using virtual advertising”, “Fighting gender attitudes and stereotypes”.
